The Judges’ Forum of Serbia and the Sombor Mediation Center marked the International Day of Families
On May 15, 2026, the Judges’ Forum of Serbia and the Sombor Mediation Center marked the International Day of Families by organizing a conference dedicated to the topic “Social Responsibility and the Normative Framework in the Protection of the Family.”
The discussion focused on the upcoming amendments to the Family Law and the Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence, which are expected to provide more effective legal protection, particularly for minors, while aligning the legislation with contemporary social needs. The experts emphasized that the family, as the foundation of society, must be afforded the strongest legal protection.
Nebojša Đuričić, President of the Judges’ Forum of Serbia, pointed out that significant progress has been made over the past 20 years in protecting the most vulnerable groups, and that the new amendments do not represent radical changes.
“The Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence should not undergo drastic or radical measures; rather, the aim is to fine-tune the legislation and eliminate shortcomings that have emerged in practice,” Đuričić emphasized.
The practical implementation of the law and the strengthening of child protection were also discussed by Nada Fridrih (judge), Mr. Manela Operta Podunavac (Senior Judicial Associate at the Higher Court in Sombor), and Ivana Kulić (mediator and family counselor).
